Jan-Feb 2019: Georgia earns $30 mln by exporting 12 mln bottles of wine

Georgia exported about 12.2 million bottles of wine to 32 countries in January-February 2019, which is a 13% increase compared to the same period of 2018, announces the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Last month Georgia generated $30 million from the sale of wine abroad – 21% increase year-on-year. 

The top five countries that imported the most bottles of Georgian wine in January-February 2019 were:

  1. Russia – 8,688,854 bottles
  2. Ukraine – 976,482 bottles
  3. Poland – 628,022 bottles
  4. China – 600,783 bottles
  5. Kazakhstan – 346,152 bottles

To European countries:

  • Sweden – 313% increase (9,000 bottles)
  • Lithuania – 75% increase (104,616 bottles)
  • France – 24% increase (17,406 bottles)
  • Bulgaria – 6% (4,500 bottles)

To traditional export markets and Asia:

  • Mongolia – 189% increase (66,012 bottles)
  • Belarus – 1,389% increase (80,394 bottles)
  • Russia – 17% increase (8,688,854 bottles)
  • Azerbaijan – 8% increase (8,814 bottles)

To strategic export markets:

  • United States – 1,032% increase (128,145 bottles) 
  • Poland – 42% increase (628,022 bottles)
  • China – 7% increase (600,783 bottles)

Last month 115 companies exported wine, said the Georgian National Wine Agency.

Meanwhile, Georgia exported 4.2 million bottles of Georgian brandy (+89%) and 85,400 bottles of Chacha (+188%) abroad in 2018.
